SEX EDUCATION IN UKRAINE: CURRENT STATUS AND PROSPECTS FOR DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

Purpose. The purpose of the article is to study the awareness of Ukrainians in matters related to sex educationand sexuality education. This is of great importance because it provides young people with the knowledge and skills necessary for lifelong sexual health. It teaches them about healthy relationships, informed decisionmaking,critical thinking and self-love. Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) is associated with manybenefits, including the prevention of unwanted pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and anytype of violence or discrimination. It also promotes respect for sexual diversity, inclusivity and positivecommunication skills. Methods. In the course of the empirical study, we created and tested a questionnaireaimed at determining attitudes toward sexuality education in Ukraine. The survey involved 330 people fromdifferent regions of Ukraine. Results. It has been determined that despite the existing challenges, the vastmajority of people support comprehensive sexuality education because it provides the necessary tools tomake informed decisions, develop healthy relationships, and maintain sexual health. Conclusions. Sexualityeducation in Ukraine faces significant challenges. The situation of CSE in Ukraine, like in many other countries,can be the subject of discussion and cause different points of view. Some of the main challenges that may existin this context include: conservative beliefs, lack of a unified program, lack of information and training, socioculturaldifferences, influence of religious communities, etc.
