Abstract

The article goal is to study and investigate the nature of the correlation between the tendency to conformbehavior and the social and psychological adaptability of first-year students. Methods: personal questionnaire“Conformity-suggestion” S.V. Klauchek and V.V. Delaware; D. Marlowe and D. Crown’s diagnosticmethod of self-assessment of approval motivation (lie scale); the method “Self-assessment of psychologicaladaptability” (modified version of the method of S.I. Boltivets); the research method of socio-psychologicaladaptation by K. Rogers–R. Diamond; multi-level personal questionnaire “Adaptability” (MLO-AM),developed by O.H. Maklakov and S.V. Chermeninin. The sample consisted of 60 first-year students (17–18 years old) studying at the Dnipro National University named after Oles Honchar. Results. The study revealed a connection between factors such as self-evaluation of psychological adaptation, emotional comfort, and motivation for approval with the propensity for conformity behavior. Higher levels of adaptive indicatorswere associated with increased conformity and approval motivation. Additionally, negative correlationswere found between escapism, behavioral regulation, personal adaptation potential, moral normativity, and conformity behavior. This suggests that individuals with higher scores in these indicators demonstratedlower levels of conformity. Conclusions. Conformity behavior is most prevalent among freshman studentsduring their social-psychological adaptation to university life. The self-evaluation of psychological adaptationand emotional comfort may play a significant role in shaping conformity behavior and motivation for approval. The results indicate a relationship between social-psychological adaptation, emotional comfort, approvalmotivation, and the propensity for conformity behavior.
