ARCHETYPE IMAGES OF PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFESSION IN GRADUATE STUDENTS

Keywords: person, shadow, factor analysis, fairy tale, personal differential

Abstract

In the article the author describes the results of diagnostic work with students-psychologists on final courses. The aim of the article is to highlight the results of empirical research of archetypal images at the end of university and to prepare for future activities.

Methods. The study was conducted on the basis of Kherson State University and Mykolaiv National University named after V. Sukhomlinsky with the participation of 80 students of final courses. The methods were used such as: the algorithm for writing and analysing fairy tales (A. Yatsyuk, in author’s modification), the technique “Personal differential” (option adapted from Bekhterev Research Institute). The factor analysis and Pearson’s linear correlation coefficient were conducted as mathematical processing of the results using the SPSS computer program, version 17.0.

The results of the research are presented in the form of qualitative analysis of fairy tales investigated with the selection of dominant themes, main characters and antiheroes, features of interaction between heroes as archetypal images. On the basis of the correlation analysis on the scales of the method “Personal differential” (option adapted from Bekhterev Research Institute) it is proved that the hero and the antihero of the fairy tale can be considered as personal characteristics of the researched.

Conclusions. It is proved that archetype can be used in scientific terms, since it is based on the characteristic of the category of mental image and has a neurophysiological basis similar to the process of imagination. A combination of research methods was used for the work, the results of which are important scientific data. It is pointed out that for the students of the final courses professional archetypal image “I” corresponds to the factor structure with the name “Realist”, “Consul”, “Master”, “Politician”, “Fidget”. The factor matrix of the hero or Person is characterized by the images “Inventor”, “Teacher”, “Leader”, “Sports Coach” and “Composer”. Factoring of personal characteristics of an antihero or shadow of personality is represented by the images “Mediator”, “Commander”, “Consul”, “Realist” and “Inspector”. Prospects for further scientific research are to continue studying the peculiarities of formation and becoming of archetypal images of the psychologists’ profession at different stages of professional formation.
