Abstract

Purpose. The article provides a theoretical analysis of the concept of sexual identity in modern psychological literature, characterizes the stages of development and formation of an individual’s sexual consciousness, and reveals the influence of stereotypes on gender socialization. Methods. The features of sexual and psychological development in adolescents are highlighted, their experiences of their own bodies during maturation are described, and the specifics of gender culture formation are examined. Results. In modern society, traditional perceptions of masculinity and femininity are gradually transforming, leading to changes in gender roles and behavioral models. In the context of globalization and the spread of digital technologies, young people increasingly turn to virtual sources of information, influencing their self-perception and awareness of their sexual identity. The growing global popularity of Korean pop culture actively promotes an androgynous style, reshaping ideas about appearance, behavior, and gender roles. These phenomena spark discussions among scholars, as the issue of sexual identity is moving beyond the biological dimension and gaining socio-cultural significance. Conclusions. Given these changes, it is crucial to analyze how contemporary adolescents form their sexual identity in the context of the influence of social networks, global cultural trends, and evolving societal norms. Special attention is given to the impact of social networks on the development of an individual’s sexual identity.
